The Cat and the Devil Beaugency, small old town in France is lying on bank of Frances longest river the Loire. The people of Beaugency have one problem: the river is so wide that they can cross it only with boat. BUT they havent got boat and they dont have enough money to buy one. Can you help them? p. 8/9 INTERACT WITH CLASS The Devil always reads the newspaper and so he hears about this sad situation. Devil: What shall do? Im going to meet the Lord Mayor of Beaugency, Monsieur Alfred Byrne. Puppe Teufel few minutes later he is on the way to the Lord. Devil: In the newspaper read about your problem. have good idea. can make bridge for the people of Beaugency so that they can cross the river as often as they want. can build the best bridge ever in one single night. Lord: Hmmm And how much money do you want for making such bridge? Puppe Teufel Puppe Lord Devil: No money All ask is that the first person who crosses the bridge belongs to me. Lord: Good. The night comes down and all the people in Beaugency are in bed and are sleeping. p. 16/17 The next day begins. When people put their heads out of the windows they see fine strong stone bridge. Some of them cry: Oh my god, what fine bridge! p. 18/19 All the people run down to the head of the bridge and look across it. There is the Devil standing at the other side of the bridge waiting for the first person who crosses the bridge. In one hand he has his cat and in the other hand he carries bucket of water. When the Devil sees the Lord, he stops dancing immediately. All the people are silent and are staring at the two men on the bridge. All of sudden, the Lord put the cat down on the bridge and splashes the whole bucket of water over the cat. The cat runs straight way to the Devil, direct into the devils arms. p.25 p. 26/7 The Devil is as angry as the Devil himself. Devil: You people arent nice at all! Youre nothing but cats!
