Höheres Lehramt Mittelschulen English Didactics Course Postcard Activity Aims: the students talk to each other, they compare and discuss their postcards, try to find their partner the students walk around the static lesson is loosened and made more interesting the students get to know different sights from the English-speaking world the students are grouped in pairs for possible further tasks Material needed: set of postcards with different famous (e.g. London Bridge, Sidney Opera, Twin Towers New York, Edinburgh Castle etc.) and less familiar sights. Each postcard is cut in two halves. Activity description: This task should take max. 3 minutes. The students get half of postcard each and start walking around in the classroom looking for their partner. They should not only show their pictures to each other but ask questions like (teacher gives instructions beforehand): Ive got . on my postcard or Do you have . on your postcard? or Whats on your postcard? After they have found each other, the students sit down in pairs and discuss what the picture on their postcard displays. As help, the teacher writes the names of all the sights (more difficult: write down some names of sights that are not on any of the cards) that are on the postcards on the blackboard. The students are given 3 minutes for this. Each pair now shows their postcard to the class and the fellow students guess what sight it might be. This task should take about 5-7 minutes.
