In the middle of the flag there is red circle. The red circle is symbol for the sun. In Japan the sun is symbol for power. (Since 1854) The flag of Bangladesh is green. (Since 1918) The colours of the flag of Russia are red, blue and white. The rectangle at the top is white, the rectangle in the middle is blue, the rectangle at the bottom is red. The flag of the Netherlands also has the colours red, blue and white. «Peter the Great», czar of Russia, learnt how to build ships in Holland. He loved the country and gave the flag of Russia the colours of the flag of the Netherlands in 1699. The rest of the flag is red. The moon and the star are symbols for the Islamic religion. More than 72 million people live in Turkey. (Official flag since 1936) In the middle of the flag of the Lebanon there is green tree. It is called cedar tree and is symbol for this country. The tree is in white rectangle. White is the colour of peace. The rectangles at the top and at the bottom of the flag are red. (Since 1943) Kiribati is very small country somewhere near Australia. The country is in the middle of the South Sea. The wave at the bottom of the flag is blue, the next wave is white, the next wave blue and so on. The sun and the bird are golden. The bird is symbol for freedom and strength. In Kiribati there are about as many people as in the canton of Zug. On the flag of Jamaica there are four triangles and two stripes. The triangles on the left and on the right are black and are symbol for slavery in the past. The triangles at the top and at the bottom are green and are symbol for hope and nature.
