Science World Languages Grades 9-12 Integration in Switzerland How can we create documentary about the many ways that people can integrate into society? Project Summary Switzerland is multicultural country- 1/4 of the population do have migration background. In this project, students explore the different aspects of integration on personal and scientific level. They learn about the different stages of integration and analyze facts and numbers concerning other nationalities who live in Switzerland. Students use all these pieces of information to create questions for an interview with native speaker of the target language (French/Spanish/English). Students create documentary about the many ways that people integrate in Switzerland. The documentary will be shown and commented in premiere in school. Students learn about aspects of integration in general. Activities Activity Title Description Have students answer the questions about their personal experiences. Ask students to make notes to the following questions: Resource Link Do you have migration background? If no, do you know any other person who has migration background? Do you see any differences between you and the other(s)? Describe How do you feel when you visit another country? Could you imagine to live there? Why? Why not? Discuss and collect the answers of the students in word-document (whole group) Have students brainstorm Use the menti-platform. Ask students to write 4 words which come to their mind when they hear the word integration. Let students discuss about the result in pairs. Students do some research on the topic of integration and write summary of the information they understood Have students watch video and read texts about integration and answer the following questions as guideline for their summary: Give possible definition of integration Which are the most important characteristics of integration? Why? Describe the different stages of social integration. Give an example for every stage.(optional: Give examples of behaviour and ask students to assign them to stage of integration). Then ask them to list the main topics with examples mentioned by the persons in the video. Organize premiere in your school Then have students invite fellow-students, their parents, friends, teachers and everyone who took part in the project.
