Checklist FCE Speaking Exam Part 1: This part lasts about 2-3 minutes The examiner asks questions about yourself and your opinions Topics: Your hometown country Work and study Sports and leisure Family and friends Travel and holidays Hobbies and entertainment This is question and answer part between the examiner and one candidate. You wont speak to the other candidate during this part. Make sure you listen to your partners answers as the examiner might ask you the same question. You want to make sure you dont answer in the same way as your partner. Your Part one score is based on: Grammar vocabulary (are you able to make complex sentences with correct sentence structure, is the vocabulary used clear and accurate) Discourse management (can you build longer sentences with connections) Pronunciation: (how clearly you speak and whether your intonation and stress are correct and natural) Use variety of sentence structures, correct tenses, and wide vocabulary. Use conjunctions (and, or, but), linking words (although, however, on the other hand), avoid hesitations (use «Thats good question.» «Let me think.» if you need some time to think) Be confident and positive, warm up before the speaking exam (speak in English to the people waiting with you), smile, be friendly, make eye contact, turn to your partner and listen when he/she speaks, speak naturally and clearly.
