The Socratic Seminar GOAL Leave with more questions than you had before. EXPECTATIONS: Prepare ideas in advance, reflect on your reading, analyze, and synthesize your understanding of the text. Listen carefully: When other speak, its not time to find answers. You achieve much more by actively/patiently listening to others in order to build on their points, questions, ideas. Make Room for each to succeed: patiently give time for each classmate to complete their explanations and prompt them to elaborate if you observe significant gaps. Take your time to develop complete point—no need to rush. No hand raising Question and explore, but do not debate, nor shut down, nor prove wrong. Refer to specifics in text when contributing, even when posing question. Avoid side conversations Accept answers without judgment—encourage classmates to take risks with ideas and challenge yourself to find the genius in all points made by posing good questions.
