At night, they hear car and secretly follow it. They find man digging hole and see that he has dead girl in suitcase. The man notices them and shoots. Chris is injured, and they run. The man finds them again, and Bob is shot. They fall into the river, and the man thinks they are dead. He leaves to bury the girl, while Chris lies in the cold water, unsure if Bob is still alive. Chapter 5: Chris rescues his injured father, Bob, from the cold river and brings him to their campsite. The killer has stolen their phone, so Chris must go for help. Chris walks through pain and exhaustion until he reaches farm, where he collapses. Before blacking out, he tells man about his father, handing him the map. Chapter 6: Chris wakes up in the hospital with injuries; his father is also injured. The police accuse Chris of shooting his father, but Chris denies it. Chris explains that man in the forest shot them. The doctor confirms Chris couldnt have shot himself. Detective Woods believes Chris and drops the accusation. Chapter 7: Chris shows the police where Emmas body is buried in the forest. The police begin digging and find her body, but Chris doesnt want to see more. The killer is planning his next move, deciding to take another girl. Chris reads about himself in the newspapers as hero but struggles to remember where hes seen the killer before. The police hope the killer will make mistake, while Chris worries about the safety of another girl, Kate. Chapter 8: Chris is recovering in the hospital but feels sad about his father condition. The killer disguises himself as doctor to get into Chriss room, but Chris recognizes him just in time. The police capture the killer, who turns out to be substitute teacher named Mr. Morris. Chris feels relief that Kate is safe and that his father is waking up. Chris gets bravery award for his actions, but he doesnt feel brave, just glad to have helped.
